Frog

My first two elective courses in middle school were dissection and illustration. It made for an amazing paring for the semester. It was the first term I had ever achieved straight “A”s and I really found my stride in school for the first time. I recall all the animals we dissected including shrimp, squid, grasshopper, earthworm, frog and fetal pig. My cousin and I were in the class together and he and I convinced the instructor to let us preserve the feral pigs heart and head. I kept the heart and he kept the head. While later that term we were at friends house that was near a pond, and we had found a dead frog on the banks of the river. It was mostly bones, but I was really fascinated by the anatomy and the fact that I had the hands on knowledge having dissected on weeks earlier. I wanted to keep it, but was convinced our friends mom would freak out. I decided to leave it behind, but I think about how powerful it felt to have that information at the ready.
